Fiat 501S 1920
The Fiat 501S was manufactured between 1919 and 1926. It was also the first model built by Fiat after the War. More than 47,000 of these cars were built. The call was seen as a small family car and it was available as a four-door sedan or as a cabriolet. It had four-speed manual engine and came just after the Fiat Zero.
A lot of these cars were exported, mainly to Australia. The car was considered very good value due to its larger size. This fits with performance and head of 14 hp engine. Its top speed was 45 mph. It only had rear wheel brakes, as all wheel brakes only came into effect after 1924.
Lucy, the name she came with when I bought her off the widow of a good friend, is a great fun car and won Best in Show at Baston in 2017. History is known from 1958
Took her off the road in 2019 off the road to have a major engine re-build ready for her centenary in June 2020. Sadly the planned party did not happen, and the engine was finished in late 2021. Springs were renewed also.
Great fun car to drive, everyone loves her. Sadly now up for sale at the asking price of £29,500 for this wonderful car.
